Pictured is the Marion County Court House and an old home in Nichols, South Carolina. Marion County was initially created in 1785 as the county of Liberty in old Georgetown District, one of the original judicial districts created in 1769. In 1798 when courthouse districts were created in South Carolina, the name Marion District was named after General Francis Marion who was born in St. John;'s Parish, near Georgetown, South Carolina.
