Cherokee County
Cherokee County was formed in 1897 from parts of Spartanburg. It is famous for the little town of Cowpens, the site of Revolutionary War Battle of Cowpens on January 17, 1781. This battle was a decisive victory for the revolutionary forces. Iron mining ruled the economy of the area and is sometimes referred to as the Old Iron District.
